DISNEY CHANNEL PICKS UP A SECOND SEASON OF TOP-RATED SERIES “A.N.T. FARM”

Disney Channel has ordered a second season of the hit comedy series “A.N.T. Farm,” TV’s #1 series among Kids 6-11 and Tweens, it was announced today by Adam Bonnett, Senior Vice President, Original Programming, Disney Channels Worldwide.

Created by Dan Signer (“The Suite Life on Deck,” “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody”) and executive-produced by Signer and Stephen Engel (“The Big Bang Theory,” “Mad About You,” “Dream On”), the series stars China Anne McClain, Sierra McCormick, Jake Short, Stefanie Scott and Carlon Jeffery. Recurring are Finesse Mitchell (“Saturday Night Live”), Elise Neal (“The Hughleys”), Zach Steel, Mindy Sterling (“Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me”) and Aedin Mincks.

In making the announcement, Bonnett said, “Since its premiere, we have seen kids and families connecting with the ‘A.N.T. Farm’ characters, music and comedy. The talented cast, and the creativity of executive-producers Dan Signer and Stephen Engel, makes for a winning combination of smart and funny storytelling.”

China Anne McClain, age 13, is also a recording artist signed to Hollywood Records and is currently working on an album with her sisters Sierra and Lauryn McClain. Ms. McClain and two of her cast mates, Stefanie Scott and Carlon Jeffery, perform songs from and inspired by the series on the “A.N.T. Farm” soundtrack from Walt Disney Records. Released in October, it spent five weeks at #1 on the Billboard Kids Album chart and yielded two hits for Ms. McClain, “Dynamite” and “Calling All the Monsters,” each spending several weeks at #1 on Radio Disney’s Top 30. Additionally, music videos for “Dynamite” and “Calling All the Monsters” have generated a combined 22 million views online via Disney Channel, YouTube and Vevo. Ms. McClain recently performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Chicago’s Magnificent Mile Lights Festival Parade and will next be seen in the “Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade” on the ABC Television Network (Sunday, December 25, 12:00-2:00 p.m., ET).

DCOM Frenemies Premieres January 13th

Posted on: Friday, December 2nd, 2011 in: Bella Thorne, Disney Channel News, Stefanie Scott, Zendaya Coleman

Disney’s newest DCOM, "Frenemies"¯ premieres January 13th. The thing that gets me is that it sounds like it’s going to be a very preachy movie, with three different storylines that are trying to convey the same basic plot point. Now if all the points somehow interact in an interesting way at the end that may save it, but I don’t have very high hopes. This is clearly just an excuse to push Bella and Zendaya. Whom, as pwfan pointed out, seem to be attached at the hip.

Frenemies DCOM

Disney’s press release and premiere schedule follows.

BELLA THORNE, ZENDAYA, STEFANIE SCOTT, NICK ROBINSON AND MARY MOUSER STAR IN “FRENEMIES,” A DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE ABOUT FRIENDSHIP, PREMIERING FRIDAY, JANUARY 13

“Frenemies” follows the lives of three very different sets of friends dealing with the ups and downs of friendship. The first story follows Halley and Avalon, best friends who are overjoyed when a publisher wants to turn their fashion blog into a magazine, but their friendship is put to the test when they learn that the magazine only wants one of them to stay on as senior editor. The second story follows the inseparable science-whiz Jake and his dog, Murray. Jake is excited to introduce Murray to his new science project partner (and crush), Julianne, but there’s something about her that Murray just doesn’t like - and the feeling is mutual. In the last story, tomboy Savannah, who comes from a large high-energy family, meets privileged uptown girl Emma, who looks like her twin. The two girls become fast friends and decide to trade places for a while, but realize that life on the other side isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.

Phineas and Ferb Renewed for Fourth Season

Posted on: Thursday, November 17th, 2011 in: Disney Channel News, Phineas and Ferb, Save Disney Shows

Good new for my fellow animation and/or Ashley Tisdale fans, Disney has renewed Phineas and Ferb for a fourth season.

Phineas and Ferb

The official press release follows:

DISNEY CHANNEL ORDERS FOURTH SEASON OF EMMY AWARD-WINNING ANIMATED SERIES “PHINEAS AND FERB”

Disney Channel has ordered a fourth season of Emmy Award-winning “Phineas and Ferb,” TV’s #1 animated series in Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14, and will have new episodes rolling out through 2014. Upcoming episodes include a musical featuring the one-hit wonder “Phineas and the Ferb-tones,” commemoration of Platypus Day, and a winter vacation special featuring seasonal sports and a New Year’s celebration.

Created and executive-produced by Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, the series is a production of Disney Television Animation.

“Phineas and Ferb,” TV’s #1 animated series among Tweens for four years in the U.S., exceeded 289 million unique viewers airing on Disney Channels and Disney XD and third party broadcasters — and in July, premiered on China’s CCTV, reaching 145 million total viewers in its first six weeks. Its latest offshoot, the Disney Channel Original Movie “Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension,” is the #1 animated cable telecast of all time among Kids 2-11 in the U.S. and just recently broke Disney Channel ratings records in India, Japan and France.

With over 100 episodes and counting, a live action/animated talk show and a hit TV movie, the success of “Phineas and Ferb” has created opportunities for other Disney divisions including Disney Interactive Studios (Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS and Sony PlayStation 3 video games), Walt Disney Records (soundtracks), Disney Consumer Products (toys/consumer electronics, apparel, accessories, food, health and beauty items), Disney Publishing (over 5 million books, comics and a magazine in 45 countries), Walt Disney Studios Distribution (DVDs), Disney Parks and Resorts (interactive live entertainment experience) and Disney Theatrical Group (a live touring stage show). Disney Studios has a feature film in development for July 2013.

The voice cast includes: Vincent Martella as Phineas Flynn, Thomas Sangster as Ferb Fletcher, Ashley Tisdale as Candace Flynn, Mitchel Musso as Jeremy, Caroline Rhea as mom Linda Flynn-Fletcher, Richard O’Brien as dad Lawrence Fletcher, Dee Bradley Baker as Perry the Platypus, Alyson Stoner as Isabella, Jeff “Swampy” Marsh as Major Monogram and Emmy Award-winning Dan Povenmire as the nefarious Dr. Doofenshmirtz.

Article: Disney Net Income Up 30% in 4th Quarter

Posted on: Monday, November 14th, 2011 in: ABC Broadcasting, Disney Channel News, Disneyland, Save Disney Shows, Website

Good news for Disney this quarter!

The Walt Disney Studios

Walt Disney Co. reported strong fourth-quarter earnings, buoyed by gains at Disney Channel and ESPN and at the Burbank company’s theme parks.

The entertainment giant reported net income of $1.08 billion for the quarter ending Oct. 1, a jump of 30% compared with a year earlier. Revenue also rose 7% to $10.4 billion.

Disney achieved record revenue, net income and earnings per share for fiscal 2011. Net income for the year reached $5.26 billion on revenue of nearly $41 billion.

“Given the challenging economic environment this year, I’m particularly proud of our excellent management team, which has consistently delivered on our strategy of creating high-quality content, expanding our platforms and growing our iconic brands and assets worldwide,” Disney President and Chief Executive Robert A. Iger said on a call with media analysts Thursday.

Disney’s media networks group, which includes the ABC television network, its collection of local TV stations and its cable channels, continues to be a profit engine for the company. Media networks posted operating income of $1.4 billion, a gain of 20% from a year earlier.

The TV group’s results were driven by sales of Disney Channel programming and higher fees paid by cable and satellite distributors, as well advertising growth internationally.

ESPN, which set viewership records for the fourth consecutive year, also benefited from fee increases and ad growth. Even the struggling ABC network is gaining traction with new dramas, including its modern-day take on fairy tales, “Once Upon a Time,” and its comedy about suburban life, “Suburgatory.”

Disney’s parks and resorts saw a 33% surge in operating income, which rose to $421 million for the quarter. The improved results at the company’s domestic parks, Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Paris helped to partially offset costs associated with the September opening of the new Aulani hotel and vacation resort in Hawaii.

Iger said the company is beginning to reap the rewards of five years of investments in Disney’s theme parks. In the coming year, the company will open “Carsland,” which is the centerpiece of its $1-billion overhaul of California Adventure in Anaheim and the opening of Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom park in Orlando, Fla.

Walt Disney Studios reported operating income of $117 million in the fourth quarter, up 13% from a year earlier, even though revenue fell 8%.

The studio’s domestic movie ticket sales benefited from this fall’s 3-D re-release of the 17-year-old animated classic “The Lion King,” which grossed about $150 million in worldwide box office receipts, Iger said.

Pixar Animation Studio’s sequel, “Cars 2,” had $559 million in global ticket sales but compared unfavorably to the 2010 summer blockbuster “Toy Story 3.”

Iger said the “Cars” franchise continues to spur consumer product sales, noting that it has surpassed “Star Wars” and “Toy Story” in retail sales of movie-themed merchandise. The consumer products group reported operating income of $207 million for the quarter, up 13% from the same period a year ago.

The upcoming Thanksgiving release of “The Muppets” is expected to “rebuild another beloved franchise,” Iger said. He noted that the film cost “less than $50 million to produce” and illustrates Disney’s strategy of releasing a mix of expensive event films like Marvel Entertainment’s 2012 superhero picture “The Avengers” with lower-cost movies.

Disney’s long-struggling interactive group reported a 19% gain in revenue, which rose to $223 million. Operating losses for the group fell to $94 million, compared with $104 million in the same period last year.

Iger said the interactive unit plans to introduce eight social networking games in the coming year, taking advantage of established Disney and Marvel brands, as well as creating original characters.

The chief executive expects the group to post a profit in 2013.

New Music DCOM: Let It Shine

Posted on: Thursday, October 27th, 2011 in: Disney Channel News

A new DCOM starring Tyler James Williams, Coco Jones and Trevor Jackson? Oookay. A few thoughts that ran through my head…

1) They’re ripping off Victorious with the title. :/
2) Coco Jones? Seriosuly? She’s that crazy chick that was trying to sing “Who Says” at the 2011 D23 Expo.
3) “Cyrus DeBarge”? Cyrus DeBarge? Are they really that desperate?
4) “its soundtrack will include 12 original songs” Oh… maybe they are that desperate. LOL
5) “Brandon Mychal  Smith (“So Random!”) as Lord of Da Bling, the intimidating champion rapper”  Lord of Da Bling? Okay… that might actually be worth seeing.
6) “Nicole Sullivan (“MADtv”) as Roxanne’s powerful music manger Lyla;” Alright. I’ll watch. But I’m gonna write a harsh review after. xD

And if you’re still trying to place Coco Jones she’s from Radio Disney’s N.B.T.
